The One Thing Book Report, Learning how to FOCUS on your Success!
While I was reading ‘The One Thing’, I can’t help but think about a ‘Magnifying Glass’… But more on that in a while.
All of us have the desire to be successful and Gary Keller shares his experiences and tips on how to achieve this coveted status in his latest book, The One Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results. The co-founder and chairman of Keller Williams Realty, together with Jay Papasan, reveal in this book that focusing on one main goal, as opposed to accomplishing several ones, would bear the best results in terms of work, relationships and life in general.
My Reading Experience of The One Thing
The One Thing is enjoyable to read even though I only got a glimpse of it through the downloadable chapters. The fact that these few pages caught my interest is a testament of how powerful the contents of this book are!
Very well written and it felt like a friend was just telling me his story of how he became successful. From the interetsing anecdotes to the wise use of metaphors, the ideas that the authors are trying to explain were easy to understand. The topics are eye openers that were backed up by truthful evidence.
Chapter 5 is a Shocker!
In the fifth chapter of The One Thing, the authors exposed that multi-tasking is counter productive, produces mediocre results and actually, is a lie. At first, I was stunned by this revelation but after reading the whole chapter, I came to realize that as you do several things at once, you are unable to give 100 percent on each task. This is the ‘Magnifying Glass’ that I mentioned earlier – it is only when you focus the sunlight on one focal point that you can make fire. This chapter encouraged me to set my priorities properly by making a list of goals and finishing them one at a time.
My Personal Rating
I enjoyed The One Thing by Gary Keller with Jay Papasan because of its unique, inspiring concepts presented in a comprehensible manner. I strongly recommend it to people who want to be on top of their careers or those who want a more goal oriented lifestyle. If this book review made you want to buy the book, you can order it here. You can also read the sample chapters to give you a taste of what to expect. Overall, I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
